Helping WD-40 improve their digital goals
WD-40 Company is a well-known American manufacturer, best recognised for its flagship product, a multi-purpose lubricant and anti-corrosion spray. Based in San Diego, California, the company was founded in 1953 by a team of scientists led by Norm Larsen. Originally developed for the aerospace industry, WD-40 was designed to protect missiles and rockets from rust and corrosion.
Today, the company operates globally, distributing its products across numerous countries. The company’s products are widely used in various sectors, including automotive, manufacturing, construction, and home maintenance.
WD-40 were looking to improve the customer experience for their European websites, this included shortening page load times, an improved UX for mobile users and a reduction in bounce rates. This would involve creating a more user-friendly administration system and enhancing the front-end experience across all European sites, while simultaneously boosting overall site performance. WTBI were happy to help.
It was essential to continue using the existing WordPress CMS to ensure consistency for the support and content teams. A thorough review of the plugins was conducted and any outdated or sub-standard plugins were removed and replaced with modern, well-supported alternatives, providing a more efficient and streamlined administration experience for the content teams. With the requirement to deliver multiple sites closely adhering to the companies brand guidelines, it was decided that all sites would share the same theme code base and plugins. This approach called for a more advanced build and deployment pipeline.
